Facilities at IoT and Smart Systems Laboratory MSRIT AICTE IDEA LAB
The IoT and Smart Systems Laboratory is equipped with a large ecosystem of embedded boards, wireless development kits, and smart sensing modules to support student projects, prototyping, and applied research.

Core Platforms Available:
  • Arduino development boards including UNO R3, UNO R4 Minima, and Arduino Nano 33 IoT
  • Raspberry Pi platforms including Raspberry Pi Pico starter kits and Raspberry Pi 5 Model B
  • ESP32 and ESP8266 based IoT development systems
  • NodeMCU ESP8266 Wi-Fi development boards
  • BeagleY-AI intelligent single-board computing platform
  • RAK WisBlock / Helium development kits for LPWAN and smart sensor applications
The laboratory maintains around 165 kits and modules to support academic experiments, product concepts, mini-projects, internships, and smart-system development.
The laboratory supports end-to-end smart-system prototyping with a wide range of sensing, wireless, and interfacing devices. Available Modules & Interfaces:
  • Motion and inertial sensing using ADXL335, ADXL345, and GY-87 10DOF sensor modules
  • Position and orientation sensing using GY-273 HMC5883L magnetometer
  • Proximity and environment sensing using PIR motion sensors and HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensors
  • Wireless communication modules including HC-05 Bluetooth, ESP-01 ESP8266, ESP32 wireless modules, and LoRa / Helium development kits
  • Camera modules including Raspberry Pi 3 Camera Module and OV5647 IR Night Vision Camera
  • Motor interfacing using L293D motor shield and SG90 mini servo motors
These facilities enable learners to build connected sensing systems, automation prototypes, wireless nodes, robotics demonstrators, and real-time monitoring applications.
The IoT and Smart Systems Laboratory is designed as a practical innovation space for embedded systems and connected device development. Application Areas:

  • Robotics exposure using platforms such as the ACEBOTT Quadruped Bionic Spider Robot Kit
  • Hands-on experimentation with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, NodeMCU, and AI-enabled single-board computers
This environment helps students progress from electronics fundamentals to full smart-system integration and product-level prototyping.

Advanced Embedded & Connected Systems Infrastructure

IoT and Smart Systems Laboratory

The laboratory is equipped with a diverse collection of microcontrollers, single-board computers, wireless communication modules, sensors, cameras, robotics interfaces, and educational starter kits for smart-system development.

Major platforms include Arduino UNO and Nano series, Raspberry Pi boards, ESP32 / ESP8266 development systems, NodeMCU Wi-Fi boards, RAK WisBlock Helium development kits, and the BeagleY-AI intelligent single-board computer for advanced embedded and AI-enabled applications.

The lab also includes a wide range of project-support hardware such as Bluetooth modules, ultrasonic sensors, PIR sensors, accelerometers, camera modules, motor drivers, servo motors, and smart robotics kits, enabling students to build complete prototypes from sensing and processing to communication and actuation.

With around 165 kits and modules available, the laboratory supports student internships, academic mini-projects, product innovation, rapid prototyping, and smart-system experimentation across multiple engineering domains.

Embedded Systems

The laboratory provides hands-on exposure to Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, NodeMCU, and related controller platforms for real-time embedded application development.

IoT Connectivity

Students can prototype Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LPWAN-based systems using ESP platforms, HC-05 modules, NodeMCU boards, and RAK WisBlock / Helium development kits.

Smart Sensing & Robotics

The lab supports sensor interfacing, camera integration, actuation, motion control, and robotic experimentation for smart automation and intelligent device design.

Internship Program

The laboratory offers the IoT & Smart Systems Development Internship focused on embedded programming, sensor integration, wireless connectivity, smart prototyping, and end-to-end IoT solution building.
